Music Centres
BMT runs three main Music Centres in Amersham, Aylesbury and High Wycombe.
Each centre runs a wide range of groups, choirs and ensembles catering for young musicians aged 4 – 18 and are designed to provide excellent progression for the absolute beginner through to the most advanced player. We also offer theory and aural tuition as well as some individual, paired and group tuition for those students for whom it is more appropriate to have lessons outside school hours.
All young musicians are welcome and do not have to be having lessons with BMT tutors. We also welcome young musicians who live outside of the county where this may be the best option for them in terms of provision or location.
You can keep up to date with what is happening in each Music Centre through their termly newsletter and through Social Media via Facebook and Twitter. Please contact your local centre for any further information you may require. See contacts page for more information.
Forthcoming concerts and events are all posted on the calendar on the events page.
Amersham
Dating back to 1971, Amersham Music Centre was originally based at the White Hill Centre in Chesham. Over the years our Music Centre has grown and expanded to our current location at Amersham School.
We have a strong sense of community at AmMC, and believe that the social side of making music is every bit as important as the music itself. Several members of the current AmMC teaching team started their careers with us in the 70’s, and are still teaching and inspiring our young musicians every Saturday morning! This combination of dedicated members of staff, a friendly atmosphere as well as the welcoming attitude of our teachers gives the Amersham Music Centre a real family feel.
Learn, play and sing in a supportive, inspiring and fun way. There is something for everyone, from our ‘Music for Munchkins’ sessions for 4-6 year olds, we have musical activities for all ages right through to our adult choir and ensembles. Whether you sing or play an instrument, or whether you are just starting your musical journey, AmMC has a musical activity that you can come along and get involved in. Our Café is a great place to chat and catch up every week and many friendships have been made here.

We have always strived to be very much a part of the local community. Our ensembles have performed at various arts and choir festivals winning prizes and accreditations. Concert venues have included the Elgiva Theatre, Lowndes Park, The Kings Church and various other venues locally. AmMC students also have the opportunity to perform at the Royal Albert Hall as part of our Bucks Music Trust Celebration Concerts.
Come and see what it’s all about! Send us an email or give us a call, we look forward to welcoming you to AmMC very soon.
Aylesbury
Aylesbury Music Centre is at the heart of music-making in Aylesbury. Founded in 1965 the centre has had various homes over the years but was fortunate enough to move to its own purpose-built facilities in 2002. We are very lucky to have a fabulous performance space as well as seven rehearsal rooms.
The centre is home to over 25 bands each week with something for everyone, from our pre-school programme ‘Music for Munchkins’, all the way through to Buckinghamshire County Youth Orchestra. All of our groups perform regularly both locally and in venues further afield such as Stowe School and the Royal Albert Hall.
We regularly invite prominent musicians for workshops and masterclasses, and frequently arrange activities in the community to encourage singing and music-making with our 'Sing in a Day' workshops and Learn to Play Day events.
We are proud of our welcoming atmosphere and strive to make our music centre as inclusive as possible.

High Wycombe
Whatever you play or sing there is something for you - we are proud to cater for musicians aged 4 - 80! Many of our students attend multiple groups for just one termly fee. Our friendly and experienced staff - several of whom also teach individual and group lessons at the music centre and in schools across the county - are always there to help and encourage their pupils to realise their potential in a fun environment. Whether you are just starting your musical journey or hoping to study music beyond schools we can offer whatever support you need.
Many of our senior groups regularly achieve local and national recognition: both our Saxophone and Clarinet Choirs have reached the National Finals of Music for Youth, and the Senior Big Band was awarded a Gold medal at the National Concert Band Festival in 2017. This latter group has also produced 4 CDs, with the Saxophone Choir following up with its first recording ‘Lovely Day’ in 2018.
Although our main focus is on young people (starting at 4 years old), we also welcome adults to our Community Orchestra and our affiliated choir Mill End Voices (www.millendvoices.org).

We run an extensive programme of events and performances, both on site, and in the local area: recent concert locations have included West Wycombe Church, Wycombe Abbey School, the Royal Albert Hall and the BMT Open Air Summer Galas.
HWMC is extensively used for music exams as we are an officially recognised centre for Trinity and Rockschool. The latter fits in very well with our Contemporary Music programme, with our new band tutoring group ‘Hi-Gain’ launching in February 2018.
