The Buckinghamshire County Concert Band (BCCB) has been created to give wind, brass and percussion players from across the county a chance to play in a large wind ensemble enabling them to play a wide range of repertoire. The ensemble is for performers who are grade 3 and above (exams need not to have been taken) and play one of the following instruments -
Piccolo, Flute, Oboe, Cor Anglais, Clarinet, Bass Clarinet, Bassoon, Alto Saxophone, Tenor Saxophone, Baritone Saxophone, French Horn, Trumpet, Cornet, Trombone, Bass Trombone, Euphonium, Tuba, Percussion
This year the band will perform alongside the Buckinghamshire Youth Wind Ensemble (BYWE), a group for our County’s senior players at the fantastic facilities at Wycombe Abbey school.
Wednesday 9th April 2025 - 10am to 4pm rehearsal at High Wycombe Music Centre, HP12 4BA.
Thursday 10th April 2025 – 2:00pm to 4:00pm rehearsal followed by a 6:30pm concert at Wycombe Abbey School, HP11 1PE
The fee for these dates is £25
This group is a great way to meet like-minded musicians from across the County whilst making high quality music with guidance from our fantastic Buckinghamshire Music Trust team. We hope you are able to join us.
Conductor – John Wilkinson
John Wilkinson's musical journey began at Norwich School, where he got the opportunity to sing in Norwich
Cathedral & play the clarinet in several ensembles including the Norfolk County Youth Orchestra.
He then went on to study composition at Newcastle University, with his works performed by several
ensembles including Glasgow & Newcastle University Chapel Choirs, as well as the City of London Choir.
Transitioning to focus on conducting, John led the Chapel and Chamber choirs while teaching at Stowe School
& led the City of London Choir in their 2019 summer residential course. In September 2023, John was
appointed Head of Music at Sir Henry Floyd Grammar School where he has the opportunity to conduct a
number of talented ensembles including the Senior Orchestra and Choir and the Senior Choir, winners of the 2024 Bucks Choir of the Year competition.
Currently studying conducting with British Conductor Hilary Davan Wetton, John also directs external ensembles including the Bicester Military Wives Choir & recently took over the Concert Band & Intermediate Orchestra at Aylesbury Music Centre which has fast become one of his most rewarding pursuits.
