BREAKING NEWS : we have switched our two end of term concerts around to avoid a clash with a local school’s senior production. This should not affect many of you as both concerts are still on Friday evenings. See the box on the left for the revised dates.

We have had a great start to the new academic year, with all of our ensembles now up and running and plenty of newcomers through our doors. There are still open invitations to join our two new groups:

Wycombe Community Orchestra: Fridays 6 – 7.30pm

BB3: Jazz for Grades 2 – 3, Tuesdays: 6.30 – 7.30pm

Our chamber groups are ticking over nicely, and there are still spaces in all of them, so do encourage your child to come along – remember it is all included in the termly fee, and we have dropped the entry requirements to Grade 3 level to attract the next generation of wind and brass players. There is no doubt that being part of a small group is a guaranteed route to improving all aspects of performance, including exams.

Junior Bands

We have renamed Marlow Training Band as Junior Band: Marlow, to match Junior Band: Wycombe, with the intention of both of these groups working at the same level. This should mean that any young player who cannot make Thursday evenings in Marlow can go to Wycombe on Friday evenings instead, and vice-versa. These are also the students who are suitable for our new BB3 jazz group, so please spread the word.

Concerts: Friday evenings

We are experimenting with the idea of putting the majority of our concerts on Friday evenings: this is the night when most of our groups meet anyway so it makes sense. The juniors will continue to use North Hall as their venue, whilst the seniors will venture further afield, starting with West Wycombe Church. Standard centre rehearsals and lessons will run as normal on a concert night, so it should be interesting!

Alumni news

This week former BB1 pianist Leo Munby has started his first professional music theatre job, and what a start: playing keyboard in the band for the eagerly-awaited new production of Stephen Sondheim’s ‘Company’ in the West End. Huge congratulations to him as he begins an exciting new career.

Cafe news

This weekend (28th/29th) we will be raising money for The MacMillan Trust – a splendid excuse for a cake sale.

Exam weeks and Closing Dates

Trinity: 3 – 7th December: closing date for entries is Friday 5th October (4pm)

ABRSM: 10 – 14th December: closing date for entries is Friday 12th October (4pm)
